Mañanitas opens in Colombia
Mañanitas will be screened for the first time in Salento, Quindío, as part of the International Film in the Mountains Festival. This screening is very important for the short film's journey, and therefore its director Santiago Chacón, Juan Pablo Bonilla, the director of photography, and Juan Esteban Rengifo, one of its producers, are accompanying this important moment.
Mañanitas has been selected for the official fiction short film competition, an international selection that includes 14 short films. These are stories that pulse with imagination, conflict, and the beauty of the everyday, all told through the unique lens of independent cinema. Acá la selección
The screening took place on Friday, June 6, 2025, in the cinema tent located in the main park of Salento. It enjoyed a great public turnout amidst a varied selection of short films scheduled for that evening, which preceded the screening of the feature film Horizonte by César Augusto Acevedo.
Following the presentation, Santiago Chacón exchanged a few words with the audience and later spoke privately with several people who approached him. One of these was Mauricio Romero, director of the Podcast Gente que Hace Cine, with whom an agreement was reached to record an episode for the program.
Participating in the International Film in the Mountains Festival was a great experience that allowed us to recognize excellent national and international films, establish valuable relationships with industry professionals from other parts of the country, and see Colombian films, which is not easily done in Popayán.
Also shown at this festival was the documentary short film Negret: Génesis de una Metamorfósis by Marco Paredes, a short film that Makhino is distributing. This documentary is beginning its festival run, a short film that takes a look at Negret, a valuable—and sometimes forgotten—artist and sculptor in the collective imagination of Popayán.
